The Alaska Local Service Network supports communities and agencies in Alaska that are working to prevent domestic violence. While the network does not provide all of the listed services, it works to connect the various agencies providing victim services. The network promotes prevention and education programming, engages in legislative advocacy, and creates numerous resources. It also provides training and resources for those who are interested in serving in the local community.

AmeriCorps

In Alaska, the AmeriCorps program serves thousands of community members each year. This volunteer program helps nonprofits, tribal organizations, and schools in a variety of ways. AmeriCorps volunteers can serve with the Food Bank of Alaska, help Native American communities, and much more.

AmeriCorps Seniors Companions

The AmeriCorps Seniors Companion program provides critical community support to organizations and residents. Volunteers provide assistance, friendship, and other services to help older residents live independently. AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers also help to provide respite for family caregivers.

AmeriCorps NCCC

Throughout the state of Alaska, AmeriCorps volunteers helped meet local needs, strengthen communities, and increase opportunities for young people and adults. AmeriCorps invested $4.7 million in federal funding and partnered with community organizations to empower individuals and communities. In Alaska, AmeriCorps volunteers focused on a variety of projects including helping seniors live independently, rebuilding communities after natural disasters, and more.

AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP

The AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP program is the nation’s largest volunteer program for individuals 55 years and older. It gives organizations the resources to meet critical community needs while providing volunteers with a rich volunteer experience. The program offers flexibility in work commitments and a wide range of projects.

Agriculture

The Alaska Division of Agriculture is a state agency dedicated to the promotion and development of the agricultural industry in the state. It provides funding and assistance to local farmers and ranchers. It also provides marketing assistance and conservation education. Moreover, it conducts inspections and certifies farm products.

Transportation

The Alaska Railroad provides year-round rail transportation throughout the state. The route network crosses miles of wilderness and connects communities from Seward to Fairbanks. It also serves as a link to public land treasures and remote areas. Popular destinations include the Chugach National Forest and Denali National Park.
